Approaches/Therapy

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

ACT is an evidence-based therapy that aims to up-skill us to sit with difficult feelings and thoughts rather than avoiding them or fighting them. It is a values-driven approach that encourages us to live in line with our values in order to live full and enriching lives.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

This is an evidence-based approach to treating many different presentations including anxiety, depression, OCD, panic and phobias. It helps by challenging and changing thought patterns and associated behaviour in order to help emotional regulation and develop coping strategies.

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)

An evidence approach to treating trauma memories. This approach can be used for a variety of memories from any period of a person’s life. Unlike other forms of trauma therapy, with EMDR you do not have to talk about the trauma in any detail.

Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT)

CFT aims to help those who have experience shame and self-criticism, which may be as a result of early experiences of abuse or neglect. It helps to develop self-compassion, which helps to regulate mood and lead to feelings of self-acceptance, safety, and supports with burn out, stress, perfectionism and develop better relationships with ourselves prevent burn out and find alternative coping strategies.

Seasons of Matrescence (SoM)

Seasons of Matrescence is a model of understanding matrescence. It was developed by Nicki Macahon and has the underlying understanding that mothers go through a cyclical transition throughout motherhood, just like the seasons.

Systemic (Couples/Family) Therapy

Systemic therapy focuses on how difficulties can affect and be maintained by relational factors. Systems Theory poses that all parts of a system impact one another and so therefore difficulties do not reside within an individual, but instead within the relational context to others and the social world.
