About us

Dr Charlotte Bolt

Clinical Psychologist, Systemic Practitioner, Yoga Instructor, Chair Yoga Instructor, HCPC Registered Clinical Psychologist (PYL36118).

I have enjoyed working in the NHS for 12 years across a variety of settings including; adult community mental health and inpatient settings, Children Development Centre (CDC), CAMHS and I currently work with children and parents in Paediatric Psychology. Outside of the NHS I have worked as an Associate Clinical Psychologist working with adults and young people with a variety of difficulties. I contributed to research in Yoga Therapy for Eating Disorders, as well as integrating dogs into psychological therapies and written and presented training on Safeguarding for Aneemo Health and Social Care Online Learning. I also currently work for Hertfordshire University as an Associate Clinical Tutor for Trainee Clinicl Psychologists and supporting staff and children within residential Children’s homes.

I draw from multiple psychological models, particularly Compassion Focussed Therapy (CFT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and I have completed further training in Intermediate Level, Family and Systemic Training, Autism Diagnostic Observatory Schedule (ADOS) and in Eye Movement Desensitisation Reappraisal (EMDR). I am soon to complete additional training ) Dyadic developmental psychotherapy which is an evidenced based treatment for trauma and attachment difficulties.

I am passionate about making clinical psychology accessible, and have a strong interest in Community Psychology and voluntary work. Over time I aim to work creatively and provide free resources and secure funding to offer some of our services in Nurture in Psychology for reduced costs to increase accessibility. I have worked across many charitable organisations, including START (Students and Refugees Together), Jeremiah's Journey (Children Bereavement), The Multiple Sclerosis Society, MIND, Diabetes UK and have been fortunate to work in Kenya, Ghana and India within orphanages, universities and schools.

I have always been keen to work creatively and holistically, and therefore teach Yoga and Chair Yoga to complement talking therapies. After publishing work around the experience and therapeutic process of dog-assisted psychological therapies I also integrate my Registered Therapy Dog (Therapy Dog Nationwide), where appropriate, into my work with both children and adults with a variety of presentations.

It is hard to put into words my experience of becoming a mother as no words can communicate and magnitude of how fulfilling and all-encompassing it has been. How can something so normal feel like the most magical ground-breaking thing? I was driven to develop the ‘Mother In Mind’ group to integrate my knowledge and skills in psychology, yoga and mindfulness to provide a supportive sharing space with other mothers. I then met Rachael, who helped me understand more about the concept of matrescence and through our shared professional experiences, values and ethos we birthed Nurture in Psychology!

Dr Rachael Macleod

Clinical Psychologist and Seasons of Matrescence Educator and Guide in training Co-founder of Nurture in Psychology HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist (YL040113).

I would describe myself as being ‘human’, compassionate, playful, passionate and highly empathic in my approaches. Helping women and mothers feel heard and empowered is something that drives a lot of my therapeutic work.

I have worked in a variety of mental health settings since 2015 including paediatric health, fostering and adoption services, and supporting children with additional needs and their families. I also work with production companies conducting fit for inclusion assessments and providing ongoing support for TV contributors.

I have training across a variety of therapeutic approaches and have special interests in Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), as well as Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP) level 1. I am also a Seasons of Matrescence Educator and Guide in training and EMDR therapist in training. I use a variety of approaches depending on the individual's needs, involving trauma-informed, compassionate, narrative approaches.

Having experienced the anatomical shift in life following the birth of my children I found ‘matrescence’, which made sense of my new world. I now feel passionately about supporting mothers to rediscover who they are, feel more empowered to navigate the challenges that parenthood might bring, and work through birth trauma.

Having two girls I also feel that it is important to spread the word about matrescence in order to shift the culture around mothering for their future as well as ours.
